Boskalis’ construction support vessel BOKA Northern Ocean has returned to operations in the North Sea following a dry dock period in Spain for modification work.

The 2012-built vessel underwent upgrades at the Astander dry dock in Santander. According to Boskalis, the work was completed within a few weeks.

The project included the overhaul and relocation of the vessel’s 100t knuckle boom deck crane. An anti-roll tank was also installed beneath the helicopter deck to improve dynamic sailing performance and support safer and more accurate operations.

Following completion of the yard work, BOKA Northern Ocean departed Santander for a North Sea assignment.

Earlier this year, Boskalis Subsea Services secured its first decommissioning-focused project with Shell under a multi-million-pound contract. The campaign is expected to require more than 100 vessel days, with BOKA Northern Ocean selected for the work.

The vessel was also recently involved in the first deployment of remotely operated vehicles from Boskalis’ Remote Operations Center in Aberdeen, Scotland.
