SLB announced on 17 March 2026 that SLB OneSubsea had been awarded a multi-well engineering, production and construction contract by CNOOC for the Kaiping 18-1 deepwater development in the South China Sea.
The contract covers 20 wells and includes the delivery of integrated subsea production systems for the field. The scope includes dual electric submersible pump, gas lift and gas injection horizontal trees, along with manifolds, connectors and control systems. SLB OneSubsea will also provide installation and commissioning support.
The award marks continued use of the company’s standardized subsea systems on complex multi-well developments. SLB OneSubsea said its standardized and simplified subsea architecture is intended to reduce system complexity, improve operating efficiency and support future field expansion.
The company also said its integrated delivery model helps shorten installation schedules and reduce offshore vessel requirements. Project execution will involve regional partners to support in-country manufacturing and supply-chain capability, with the aim of supporting efficient delivery and continuity for future subsea developments.
Mads Hjelmeland, chief executive officer of SLB OneSubsea, said the contract reflected continued adoption of the company’s standardized subsea systems and the efficiency gains they can bring to complex multi-well projects. He said the use of proven designs and close cooperation with regional partners would help streamline execution and support delivery for CNOOC.
