Equinor and ORLEN have confirmed a gas and condensate discovery at the Sissel structure in Norway’s sector of the North Sea.

Well 15/8-3 S, an exploration well and the first drilled on production licence 1137, was used to test the prospect. The location lies roughly 5 km from the Utgard field in a south-easterly direction and about 250 km to the south-west of Stavanger.

According to initial calculations from the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD), recoverable resources at Sissel are estimated in the range 6.3–28.3 MMboe.

The well was drilled in 110 m of water using the semisubmersible unit Deepsea Atlantic. It intersected sandstone reservoirs near the top of the Hugin formation containing gas with a high condensate content, with a hydrocarbon column of roughly 95 m.
