On 26 November 2025, Seatrium Limited announced that it had been awarded a contract by BP Exploration and Production Inc for the engineering, procurement, construction, and onshore commissioning of the Tiber Floating Production Unit (FPU) project in the Gulf of America. This signifies Seatrium’s second consecutive deepwater FPU contract with BP, following the Kaskida FPU awarded in December 2024.
According to Mr. William Gu, Executive Vice President of Seatrium Energy (International), the Tiber FPU contract represents a significant step forward in the company’s relationship with BP. He emphasized that the project underscores Seatrium’s expanding role in the FPU sector, highlighting its ability to deliver high-quality solutions with maximum efficiency and safety. He also noted that the project’s success will be driven by Seatrium’s series-build approach, which enables faster, more efficient execution by leveraging lessons learned from previous projects.
The Tiber FPU is designed to produce 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will be located in the Tiber and Guadalupe fields in the Keathley Canyon area, approximately 300 miles southwest of New Orleans. The platform will operate at a depth of around 4,100 feet.
Seatrium will replicate more than 85% of the Kaskida FPU design for the Tiber FPU, helping streamline project execution by leveraging established efficiencies and best practices. The use of a series-build model will enhance supply chain efficiency by standardizing procurement and coordinating planning across both projects. This strategy also enables Seatrium to rely on trusted suppliers and partners for engineering and commissioning support, ensuring a smooth execution process for the project.
The topside of the Tiber FPU will be integrated onto the hull using Seatrium’s single-lift methodology, enabled by its Goliath twin cranes, which have a combined lifting capacity of 30,000 tonnes. This method allows the topside to be fully completed and tested at ground level, guaranteeing the platform’s full readiness, optimal safety, and maximum operational efficiency.
The Tiber FPU strengthens Seatrium’s expanding portfolio of floating production units for leading energy clients. The company’s recent projects include the ongoing Shell Sparta and BP Kaskida FPU newbuilds, as well as the successful completions of Shell’s Vito and Whale FPUs in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
