TotalEnergies has signed a binding agreement to sell its 30% interest in Block 30 offshore Mexico to Mx Dlta Nrg 1, a subsidiary of Zamajal.
Zamajal is owned 80% by Grupo Carso, while Control Empresarial de Capitales holds the remaining 20%.
Under the agreement, Mx Dlta Nrg 1 will acquire the interest from TotalEnergies EP Mexico Block 30. The transaction remains subject to the relevant regulatory approvals.
Once completed, Harbour Energy, the operator of Block 30, will retain a 70% interest. Mx Dlta Nrg 1 will hold the remaining 30%.
Block 30 is located approximately 29 km off the coast of Tabasco in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The block forms part of the Salina del Istmo Basin and contains the Kan discovery and oil field.
The production sharing contract covers hydrocarbon exploration across an area of 30.5 square kilometers. Water depths range from 40 m to 50 m, while well depths extend from 3,300 m to 3,750 m.
The block was awarded in April 2018 by the former National Hydrocarbons Commission following an international public bidding process. The original consortium comprised Premier Oil, Deutsche Erdoel Mexico, now Harbour Energy, and Sep Block 30, now TotalEnergies. The contract has a 25-year term.
The proposed acquisition would further expand Grupo Carso’s presence in Mexico. In 2024, Grupo Carso acquired an additional interest in the Zama field following Zamajal’s purchase of an interest in Talos Mexico.
