Royal Wagenborg has installed the first CO₂ storage tanks on Carbon Destroyer 1, a dedicated offshore CO₂ carrier being built in Europe.

The four tanks were manufactured by Geldof in Belgium and loaded in Harelbeke under Royal Wagenborg’s supervision. Each tank measures 28 m in length, 6.5 m in diameter, and weighs 190 t, and is intended to store liquefied CO₂ for transport to offshore storage facilities.

The installation was carried out at the port of Delfzijl, where Royal Wagenborg deployed its floating crane Triton to lift and position the tanks on board Carbon Destroyer 1.

The vessel is set to support the Greensand CCS project, transporting captured CO₂ from industrial sites in Esbjerg to offshore storage in the Nini field. Royal Wagenborg said the milestone follows a multi-year CO₂ transport contract signed earlier this year with INEOS in the presence of HM King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and HM King Frederik of Denmark, bringing Carbon Destroyer 1 closer to operational readiness.
