Kent has been appointed as Owner’s Engineer for the Buchan Offshore Wind project as the floating offshore wind development moves toward Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and a future Final Investment Decision (FID).
The scope will be led by Kent’s Scotland team, with specialist support from Vekta Group and New Power Partners (NPP). The team will provide integrated technical and project delivery support for the next phase of the development.
The Buchan Offshore Wind project is planned around 75 km north-east of Fraserburgh and has a proposed capacity of nearly 1 GW. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than one million homes.
The project plans to use Damping Pool® floating foundation technology from project partner BW Ideol. The development is also linked to plans for Scotland’s first concrete floating foundations and support for the Scottish floating offshore wind supply chain.
The appointment follows progress across engineering, consenting, commercial and project delivery work. Over the past year, the project has advanced engineering development and continued both offshore and onshore consenting activity.
Aberdeenshire Council granted consent for the project’s onshore electrical infrastructure in May. A decision by the Scottish Government on the offshore consent application is expected by the end of 2026.
The Owner’s Engineer role will cover electrical balance of plant development, FEED planning, package engineering coordination, preparation of FEED tender documentation and wider technical governance across the delivery program.
Kent has experience in floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind. Its current UK roles include Berwick Bank, Mona and Morgan, while its floating offshore wind experience includes Kincardine and Llyr.
The Buchan Offshore Wind joint venture is equally owned by BayWa r.e., BW Ideol and Elicio.
