DNO Norge has received consent from the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority, Havtil, to drill appraisal well 25/7-15 S and sidetrack 25/7-15 A at the Norma gas-condensate discovery in the North Sea.
The wells are in production licence PL984, block 25/7, in 121 m of water and will be drilled with the Deepsea Yantai semisubmersible rig.
Built at CIMC Raffles in China and completed in 2016, Deepsea Yantai received an Acknowledgement of Compliance for operations under Odfjell Drilling in November 2019.
The campaign will further assess Norma, discovered by DNO through well 25/7-11 S in 2023. At the time, the company gave a preliminary estimate of 25 million to 130 million barrels of oil equivalent in gross recoverable resources, with a mean of 70 million barrels of oil equivalent. The discovery was made in Jurassic sandstone.
DNO had already included a Norma appraisal well in its six-well North Sea exploration programme for 2026, together with appraisal drilling at Carmen and Afrodite.
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate lists DNO Norge as operator of PL984 with a 30% interest. Vår Energi, Equinor Energy and Source Energy each hold 20%, while Aker BP holds 10%.
