Royal Wagenborg has reached a new milestone in the construction of its next-generation CO₂ carrier Carbon Destroyer 1. The vessel recently entered the dry dock at Niestern Sander shipyard in Delfzijl, where it will undergo outfitting and installation of specialized systems designed to support sustainable maritime transport.
During this next phase, the ship will be equipped with retractable thrusters and custom-built CO₂ storage tanks, advancing its role as one of the first dedicated CO₂ carriers in the market. These installations are expected to enhance maneuverability and enable the safe and efficient transport of captured carbon, aligning with growing demand for low-emission logistics solutions.
Royal Wagenborg highlighted the project as a symbol of climate-conscious innovation, combining Dutch shipbuilding expertise with cutting-edge technologies. The company emphasized that the initiative reflects its commitment to reducing environmental impact and contributing to global decarbonisation in shipping.
Located in the heart of Groningen, the Niestern Sander yard is overseeing the outfitting phase that will bring the vessel closer to delivery, marking another step toward Wagenborg’s long-term sustainability strategy.
