Boskalis has completed the tow of the 315 m-long FPSO Cidade de Niterói (MV18) from the Campos Basin offshore Brazil to Frederikshavn, Denmark.
The transatlantic operation was carried out by the ocean-going tugs BOKA Alpine and BOKA Glacier. Each tug has a bollard pull of 205 t.
The voyage took approximately six weeks and included a bunkering stop in Cape Verde before the FPSO reached Denmark. The operation involved preparation and coordination throughout the tow.
Separately, Boskalis reported that it had transported three new FPSOs from Asia to their final destinations offshore Brazil during an 18-month period.
The projects involved the 334 m-long Sepetiba, the 351 m-long Almirante Tamandaré and the 334 m-long Alexandre de Gusmão.
Different combinations of BOKA Sherpa, BOKA Alpine, BOKA Fulmar, BOKA Glacier, BOKA Defender and BOKA Expedition were deployed for the three operations.
Each FPSO was transported using a triple-tow arrangement, with three ocean-going tugs connected to the unit. The tugs involved had bollard pull capacities ranging from 205 t to 300 t.
The three Asia-to-Brazil towage projects were carried out for SBM Offshore.
