Boskalis has completed a twin heavy transport operation using its semi-submersible vessels White Marlin and Blue Marlin.

The two sister vessels made identical voyages from Qingdao, China, to Freeport, Bahamas, carrying sections of Lucayan, a mega dry dock built by CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipyard for Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited.

Measuring 413 m in length and 85 m in width, the dry dock was too large to be transported as one unit. It was therefore divided into four sections for the ocean passage.

Each vessel transported one main dry dock section measuring more than 156 m long, with an additional smaller section placed on top. All four sections have now been safely discharged in Freeport.

The sections will be assembled into a single floating dry dock. Once operational, Lucayan will be among the world’s largest floating dry docks, with a lifting capacity of 130,000 tonnes.
