Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Blue Marlin is en route to Angola carrying a colossal 41,000-ton Floating Production Unit (FPU), one of the most significant offshore cargoes transported this year.
The cargo, originally built as one of the world’s largest semi-submersible drilling rigs, has been converted into a modern FPU to serve in Congo’s first natural gas liquefaction project. Measuring 80 by 68 meters, the unit is notably wider than Blue Marlin’s 63-meter deck, yet it has been secured firmly for the transoceanic voyage.
According to ship tracking data, Blue Marlin departed Yantai, China, on August 27, 2025, and is scheduled to arrive in Angola on October 26, 2025, where the FPU will be discharged. The transport highlights Boskalis’ expertise in handling ultra-heavy offshore units and its ability to accommodate cargo dimensions that exceed vessel deck limits.
The company extended its best wishes to the crew, emphasizing the strategic role this delivery will play in strengthening Congo’s offshore energy infrastructure. The FPU is expected to be central to the region’s emerging natural gas export capabilities.
