Kingston, Jamaica – October 2025.
The Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) has unveiled its latest addition to Jamaica’s maritime infrastructure — a new generation of super post-Panamax cranes designed to enhance efficiency, capacity, and sustainability at the island’s largest transshipment hub.

Standing 52 metres tall with a 60-metre boom outreach, the newly commissioned cranes represent a major step forward in Kingston’s bid to become one of the Caribbean’s leading container handling ports. The announcement, made by the Shipping Association of Jamaica, underscores the country’s continued investment in smart port automation and advanced logistics solutions.

According to KFTL, the new equipment significantly improves the port’s operational performance. Key benefits include the ability to handle the world’s largest post-Panamax vessels, faster and more efficient loading and unloading operations, and improved reliability through automation and digital technologies.

The terminal also anticipates a measurable reduction in energy consumption and environmental impact, aligning with Jamaica’s national sustainability goals. These enhancements are expected to strengthen the competitiveness of both the Kingston Freeport Terminal and Jamaica’s broader logistics sector, a critical driver of the island’s trade and economic growth.

The investment complements ongoing efforts to position Kingston as a regional maritime hub capable of serving the evolving demands of global shipping networks.
