The Dutch freighter Thamesborg, operated by Royal Wagenborg, has been stranded in the Franklin Strait off Prince of Wales Island since September 6 during a voyage from Asia to Baie Comeau, Canada. Compared to the Panama Canal route, the Arctic passage cuts roughly 3,750 nautical miles and about two weeks of sailing time, though it presents challenges such as shallow waters, strong currents, and minimal navigation aids.
