BW Energy said MaBoMo production was halted under its procedures for preparing to drill offshore Gabon, in a statement issued on 25 October 2026 following the Prospector 5 sinking.

The operator reported no damage affecting MaBoMo or its associated equipment and no accidental release of harmful material from the facility into surrounding waters. Its announcement gave no production restart date.

The Borr Drilling jack-up Prospector 5 sank on 24 October during jacking operations ahead of a drilling programme on the Dussafu licence. The contractor’s initial assessment linked the loss of stability to a punch-through during preloading; this was not a final finding on the cause.

Borr Drilling’s subsequent announcement, dated 26 October, described searches using vessels and aircraft. Its emergency team was coordinating the response with BW Energy and officials in Gabon. Personnel recovered from the rig were being taken ashore to receive care and assistance. The contractor said it was also supporting efforts by its partners and the authorities to investigate the accident.

BW Energy has a 73.5% operating interest in Dussafu, alongside Panoro Energy with 17.5% and Gabon Oil Company with 9%. Figures released before the accident put BW Energy’s third-quarter net production from Dussafu at 16,800 barrels per day. Its total net output for the quarter was 21,500 barrels per day.
