Norway’s TMC Compressors has secured a compressed air equipment order for the Maromba FPSO, which BW Energy is preparing for operations offshore Brazil. The contract price remains undisclosed.

The FPSO is being refurbished in China by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian). Once that work is finished, the 340.6-metre vessel will operate at the Maromba field in the Campos basin.

TMC‘s delivery covers high-capacity compressors serving both service-air and control-air needs. Filtration, air drying and a control system are also included. TMC says crew members can carry out compressor maintenance without calling in external service personnel.

The new equipment follows an earlier TMC installation on the same vessel. Hans-Petter Tanum, the company’s director of sales and business development, said TMC supplied the previous system 20 years ago. He described the new requirements as a combination of greater energy efficiency, updated technology and slightly more capacity.

Before its current refurbishment, the vessel operated as FPSO Polvo. It had originally been a trading tanker and was converted for production at Brazil’s Polvo field in 2007. Its planned deployment at Maromba represents a third phase of operation.

BW Energy took its final investment decision for Maromba in May 2025. The scheme pairs the upgraded FPSO with an integrated drilling and wellhead platform. It targets Maastrichtian sands containing 500 million barrels of oil in place.

BW Energy plans to begin producing oil by the end of 2027 and expects plateau output of 60,000 barrels of oil per day.
