Sarens has completed the weighing and load-out of the 24.495-tonne Shell Crux jacket at McDermott’s fabrication yard in Batam, Indonesia.
The four-legged jacket is destined for the Crux offshore natural gas field in the northern Browse Basin. It is scheduled for installation in water depths of 165 m, approximately 620 km northeast of Broome, Australia. The field is intended to support the operating life of the nearby Prelude FLNG facility.
The Batam operation covered three stages: weighing the jacket, moving it onto a barge and transporting auxiliary structures from the fabrication yard to the jetty.
For the weighing work, Sarens deployed 14 400-tonne load cells, 66 500-tonne load cells, 400-tonne and 500-tonne hydraulic jacks, and four hydraulic power packs. The operation was carried out in a restricted working area using foundations capable of supporting both the jacket and the weighing equipment.
The jacket was then skidded 275 m from the fabrication yard to the barge using four 850-tonne strand jacks. The load-out operation required 20 hours of continuous work, followed by an additional 10 hours for the land pull.
A further set of 850-tonne strand jacks was used as a pullback system during the land pull, allowing the structure to be retracted if required.
After the jacket was positioned, Sarens transported the auxiliary loads to the jetty using 48 axle lines of SPMTs and four power packs.
The transported items included 16 monopiles, 14 insert piles and two drilling caissons, together with power packs, gangways, working decks, seal cans and bumper frames.
