Vattenfall has been awarded the Hesselø and North Sea I Mid offshore wind projects in Denmark’s latest offshore wind tender.

The Hesselø project will be located in the Kattegat Sea between Denmark and Sweden, around 30 km from the coast. It will have a minimum installed capacity of 800 MW.

North Sea I Mid will be situated in the North Sea, approximately 20 km off the coast near Hvide Sande. The project will have a minimum capacity of 1,000 MW.

Grid connections have been reserved for both projects, with the connection point located approximately 50 km inland.

Each consent will be granted for 30 years, with an option to extend the period by a further 10 years.

Vattenfall will work with relevant partners and authorities on the further development of the two projects. Environmental and social considerations will be incorporated from the outset.

The projects will expand Vattenfall’s offshore wind activities in Denmark, where its existing portfolio totals approximately 1.5 GW.

Vattenfall currently operates five offshore wind farms in Denmark. The facilities generate around 6.5 TWh of electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 1.5 million homes.
