The first offshore jacket for bp’s Tangguh UCC Project has arrived in Fakfak, Papua Barat province, after being transported about 5,800 km from Karimun Yard.

The 1,000 t structure completed the journey following more than 357,000 work hours without a major incident, according to bp. Its arrival opens the next stage of offshore installation work for the project.

The jacket was fabricated at Saipem’s Karimun yard in Indonesia. Saipem began construction activities for the Tangguh UCC offshore facilities at the yard after receiving the project from bp Indonesia.

The Tangguh UCC development covers the Ubadari offshore gas field, enhanced gas recovery through carbon capture, utilisation and storage, and onshore compression facilities in Papua Barat. bp said the project could unlock about 3 TCF of additional gas and support continued supply to the Tangguh LNG plant.

Under its offshore EPCI contract, Saipem and consortium partner PT Meindo Elang Indah are responsible for facilities used for gas production, transportation and CO₂ reinjection. The work includes two wellhead platforms, a CO₂ reinjection platform and associated offshore infrastructure. The contract is valued at about $1.2 billion, with Saipem’s share estimated at about $1 billion.

The next activity identified by bp is the installation of 75 km of pipeline linking the offshore platform with the Tangguh site.
