JERA Nex bp has completed the acquisition of Sumitomo Corporation’s stakes in the Nobelwind and Northwester 2 offshore wind farms, expanding its ownership in both Belgian assets.
The deal gives JERA Nex bp full ownership of Northwester 2 after acquiring Sumitomo Corporation’s 30% stake. In Nobelwind, the purchase of Sumitomo Corporation’s 39.02% holding raises JERA Nex bp’s total ownership to 80.1%.
JERA Nex bp developed, constructed and operates both offshore wind farms from its operations hub in Ostend, Belgium. The company said the transaction supports its strategy to build an offshore wind business around competitive assets in markets where it can act as a long-term owner and operator.
Zlati Christov, Chief Investment Officer at JERA Nex bp, said the transaction strengthens the company’s position in assets it operates and knows well. He also said Belgium has been central to the company’s offshore wind activities for more than a decade.
Northwester 2 was commissioned in 2020 and has a total installed capacity of 219 MW. Nobelwind was commissioned in 2017 as the second phase of the Belwind offshore wind farm and has a total installed capacity of 165 MW.
