Wellesley Petroleum and its partners have confirmed a gas and condensate discovery offshore Norway through the Carmen appraisal well in the North Sea.
The appraisal well, designated 35/10-16 S, was drilled in production license 1148 as part of the Carmen evaluation program. The license is valid from 11 March 2022 until 11 March 2029.
Located in water depths of 365 m, the well lies approximately 25 km northwest of the Troll field and 35 km east of the Kvitebjørn field. Drilling operations were carried out using the Deepsea Yantai rig, formerly known as Beacon Atlantic.
Preliminary estimates indicate recoverable resources of between 3.4 million and 17 million Sm3 of oil equivalent. This corresponds to approximately 21 million to 107 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Wellesley Petroleum serves as the operator of production license 1148. The remaining partners are DNO, Equinor, and Aker BP.
The license group will now evaluate development options for the Carmen discovery, including a potential tie-back to existing infrastructure in the area. Additional exploration wells may also be considered.
Following completion of the Carmen appraisal program, the Deepsea Yantai rig is scheduled to drill appraisal well 35/7-2 on the Afrodite discovery in production license 293.
