CNOOC Ltd said on Monday that production has begun at the Xijiang Oilfields 24 Block Development Project, an offshore development in the South China Sea.

The project is located in the shallow waters of the Pearl River Mouth Basin. CNOOC Ltd said it is expected to reach a plateau production of about 18,000 barrels of light crude oil equivalent per day in 2026.

According to the company statement, the development will mainly use existing facilities at the adjacent Huixi Oilfields and add a new unmanned wellhead platform. CNOOC Ltd said the project is expected to commission 10 development wells.

CNOOC Ltd holds a 100% interest in the project and is the operator.
