CSSC Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant Co., Ltd. (WMMP), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has won orders to provide hydraulic submersible pumping packages and offshore crane units for CNOOC’s Kaiping 11-4 cylindrical FPSO.
The unit is expected to be the largest cylindrical FPSO in Asia when it starts production in 2029, drawing on the operating record associated with the Haikui No.1 FPSO.
The Kaiping 11-4 development uses a subsea production system tied back to a cylindrical FPSO configuration, which, the source notes, is gaining attention for deepwater efficiency. WMMP said its pumping scope supports crude export, inter-tank transfers, ballast control, tank cleaning, and emergency discharge. Smart functions are specified to include remote condition monitoring, automated control, and early-stage fault detection.
For the crane package, the offshore cranes are described as featuring built-in fault sensing, while the machinery spaces are designed to be watertight and resilient under typhoon conditions.
The source added that the award reflects years of joint work between WMMP and CNOOC, covering component-level trials, system proving activities, and integration at the full-unit level. WMMP previously delivered comparable high-end systems for the Haikui No.1 FPSO and the Haiji II platform, which were recognised among China’s Top Ten National Key Equipment projects in 2024.
