Vestas and EnBW have opened an investigation after a blade failed on a turbine at the 960MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea on 22 July.

EnBW said no personnel were injured. The company also informed the relevant authorities immediately after detecting the incident.

The condition of the turbine is being reviewed by EnBW and Vestas. The two companies are also working to determine the cause of the failure and decide the next course of action.

Vestas said it had started a root cause investigation with EnBW and was taking steps to limit the environmental impact. The manufacturer added that all personnel were safe and the site had been secured.

He Dreiht remains under construction and is planned to comprise 64 V236-15 turbines.

The first turbine was installed in April 2025, marking the debut of Vestas’ 15MW machine. The wind farm generated first power in November last year.

EnBW has said it plans to commission the project during the summer.
