Rheinmetall has acquired Romania’s Mangalia Shipyard for €138.03 million after four failed auctions, with plans to restart operations and support a €920 million naval construction programme.
Mangalia shipyard’s bankruptcy manager will reopen the Romanian yard’s sale on 29 July 2026 at EUR 184 million, with creditors including Damen seeking a single-package asset sale.

Bursa.ro reported that Romania is preparing a potential full takeover of Damen Mangalia and could shift the shipyard toward military production under the EU’s SAFE mechanism, with Rheinmetall seen as a possible future participant.
