Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors NV, working with consortium partner N-Sea, has carried out the decommissioning and removal of the Arkona Met Mast, a 2,500-tonne structure, for RWE Renewables.

Installed in 2006, the met mast had supplied measurement data for the offshore site for nearly twenty years. With the structure at the end of its service life, it was taken away to allow further development within the existing Arkona Offshore Wind Farm.

The project was executed in four main stages: above-water preparations; subsea work from the diving support vessel Aquarius G; lifting and removal using the heavy-lift vessel Gulliver; and final onshore disposal, carried out by TASK Engineering GmbH. The companies reported that all phases were completed on schedule and without incidents.

Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors NV and N-Sea said the campaign involved complex offshore decommissioning in a wind farm environment and highlighted the coordinated effort between offshore and onshore teams.
