Saipem’s sixth-generation semisubmersible rig Scarabeo 9 has begun drilling operations in Block 16/4 offshore Libya for Eni North Africa, resuming activity that was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The rig was previously working for Burullus Gas Company in Egypt and was mobilized to Libya in August following contract completion. The well, C1-16/4, is being re-entered to complete drilling and evaluate results, signaling Eni’s renewed exploration focus in the region.
