Qair Group announced that its flagship floating wind initiative, the Eolmed project in Port-La Nouvelle, southern France, has entered its final construction stage with commissioning planned before the end of this year. Maritime operations began in late August, marking a decisive step toward delivery of one of Europe’s most significant floating wind demonstration projects.
According to Qair, Eolmed reflects France’s industrial leadership in offshore wind, with 80% of the construction assigned to national companies. At the same time, the project involves collaboration with European specialists in steel structures, transition pieces, and finishing works. The company describes Eolmed as both a product of French expertise and a European showcase, positioning it as a model for participation in future offshore wind tenders.
Qair emphasized that the experience from Eolmed is already shaping its offshore strategy, with more than 8 GW of floating wind projects under development across Europe. In Scotland, the group is advancing Ayre, a 1 GW floating wind farm awarded during the ScotWind leasing round and currently moving through planning. In Spain, Qair is pursuing more than 2 GW of offshore projects, while in Portugal, it has partnered with Etermar Energia to support the country’s roadmap that targets 2 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and up to 10 GW in the longer term. In its domestic market, Qair, through the Eolbleu consortium with Plenitude, has been pre-qualified to compete for four strategic offshore wind zones in French waters.
The company frames Eolmed as evidence of France’s capacity for innovation in floating wind, underlining its role as a reference project for future developments in Europe and beyond. By combining national expertise with broader European collaboration, Qair believes the project strengthens its position in the global renewable energy transition.
