Odfjell Drilling has received signed confirmation from Aker BP for a one-year extension covering the Deepsea Nordkapp, extending the semi-submersible rig’s firm contract period through the end of 2028.
Aker BP will retain further options after the firm period expires. The operating rate for the additional year will be fixed by the end of 2026. Two independent rig brokers will determine a rate reflecting market conditions at that time.
The Deepsea Nordkapp has operated continuously for Aker BP since the rig was delivered in 2019. The latest extension continues the companies’ existing Semi Alliance arrangement.
The Deepsea Nordkapp is a sixth-generation, dynamically positioned and winterised harsh-environment semi-submersible built to the Moss enhanced CS 60E design. It can operate in water depths of up to 2,000 m and drill to a depth of 10,670 m. The rig has accommodation for 150 people and is fitted with a hybrid energy storage system, according to Odfjell Drilling.
During the first quarter of 2025, the rig underwent planned maintenance that resulted in six off-hire days. The work included upgrades and the replacement of two thrusters, according to the company’s second-quarter 2025 results presentation.
