Collaboration between HD Hyundai and Palantir Technologies has been built up over several years. It began in 2021, when HD Hyundai Oilbank started using Palantir software at its refinery. At the site, Foundry and AIP now sit at the heart of a connected-refinery set-up, supporting refinery operations, crude-oil slate decisions, maintenance carried out on a predictive basis, and the interpretation of readings from plant sensors.

On the back of this track record, Palantir’s technology has been rolled out to shipbuilding and construction equipment affiliates in the HD Hyundai group. In these businesses, the platforms help to reinforce the group’s “Future of Shipyard” programme and speed up development work on construction equipment, while continuing to support refinery-related workflows at the group level.

In shipbuilding, cooperation is a key driver of the “Future of Shipyard” vision. Palantir’s platforms form a coordinating layer that works alongside digital-twin and 3D-modelling initiatives implemented with other technology partners.

Under the reinforced strategic partnership, Foundry and AIP will be opened up much more broadly across the HD Hyundai group. Units in robotics, electric-system businesses, marine aftermarket services, and HD Construction Equipment are among those preparing to make greater use of the platforms, and some of these affiliates will be adopting them for the first time. Pilot projects at HD Construction Equipment, together with ongoing integration work, underline a shared focus on operating performance, supply-chain coordination,n and the wider digital transformation of the group. The cooperation now also covers newer activities such as robotics and electric systems, where it is intended to support both growth and efficiency.

Chairman Chung Kisun stated that the broadened alliance is designed to link information and work processes from across HD Hyundai into one integrated environment, so that decisions can be taken more quickly and on the basis of richer analysis. He also described Palantir Technologies as a partner whose AI-driven analytics have been proven globally, and said that the relationship will reinforce HD Hyundai’s digital-transformation agenda.

Dr Alex Karp, co-founder and chief executive of Palantir Technologies, portrayed HD Hyundai as a pioneering player in the global industry and said that the expanded scope of the partnership marks a new stage in the relationship. He added that Palantir Technologies intends to keep deepening the strategic collaboration and to support further gains in the competitiveness of the HD Hyundai group.

Looking ahead, the two companies plan over the coming years to create a dedicated Foundry- and AIP-focused organisation within HD Hyundai. This unit is expected to help employees around the group make use of data-analytics tools and AI in their daily work and to encourage additional AI-led innovation. The renewed, group-wide agreement is presented as a commitment to deliver measurable benefits throughout HD Hyundai’s businesses and to make it easier to share capabilities and efficiency improvements between subsidiaries and other affiliated companies, in line with the group’s digital-transformation strategy.
