Hanwha Ocean has successfully delivered the “Wind Mover,” a wind turbine installation vessel (WITIV), earlier than planned. The delivery was completed on December 2, following the signing ceremony on November 28.
Ordered by Cadeler in 2021, the “Wind Mover” is one of two WITIVs built by Hanwha Ocean, with the first vessel delivered earlier this year. The early delivery of both vessels, with one now operating in Taiwanese waters, highlights Hanwha Ocean’s expertise in production and construction. The “Wind Mover” will now showcase its capabilities in European waters.
Equipped with a 2,600-tonne main crane, a DP2 dynamic positioning system, and the ability to operate in waters as deep as 65 meters, the “Wind Mover” is designed for the installation and maintenance of large-scale offshore wind turbines and foundations.
Cadeler plans to begin operations of the vessel in Europe immediately after mobilization, fulfilling previously secured contracts for offshore wind projects. With the delivery of “Wind Mover,” Cadeler now operates a fleet of 10 WTIVs, doubling its fleet size in just one year. The Danish company aims to expand to 12 vessels by mid-2027, further strengthening its position as one of the largest and most versatile offshore wind installation operators worldwide.
The early delivery underscores Hanwha Ocean’s growing competence in shipbuilding and project management within the offshore wind sector. The close collaboration with Cadeler and streamlined construction processes accelerated the delivery timeline.
The offshore wind sector, a rapidly growing part of the renewable energy industry, necessitates larger and more powerful offshore wind turbines. With this successful delivery, Hanwha Ocean has reinforced its technological and shipbuilding expertise, solidifying its position in the expanding offshore wind market.
