Grimaldi Group’s newly delivered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), Grande Svezia, has officially embarked on its maiden voyage, carrying a mix of vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
Built with “ammonia-ready” specifications, the vessel is equipped with a 5 MWh battery system, solar panels, cold ironing capabilities, and an innovative Gate Rudder, underscoring Grimaldi’s commitment to greener shipping solutions. At 220 meters in length with 14 decks, Grande Svezia has a carrying capacity of up to 9,000 CEU.
On its inaugural sailing, the ship loaded around 3,100 vehicles alongside a wide range of rolling cargo including excavators, buses, trucks, trailers, and construction machinery. In total, the heavy cargo accounted for approximately 5,800 lane meters.
The maiden voyage departed from Chinese ports including Taicang and Lianyungang, with the route extending across East Asia to the Persian Gulf. Grimaldi emphasized that the deployment of Grande Svezia marks a further step in modernizing its PCTC fleet, ensuring greater efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Industry observers note that the vessel’s advanced environmental features align with the International Maritime Organization’s decarbonization targets, positioning the Grimaldi Group as an early adopter of next-generation shipping technology.
