Equinor has received consent from the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority, Havtil, to carry out permanent plugging and abandonment work on the Tordis field in the North Sea.
The approved activity will use COSL Promoter, a 2012-built semi-submersible rig owned by COSL Drilling Europe. The operation covers well 34/7-K-4 HT2 and is aimed at permanently plugging the reservoir and Lista formation to improve the well’s barrier status.
Tordis lies in the Tampen area in the northern North Sea, between the Statfjord and Gullfaks fields. The water depth in the area ranges from 150 m to 220 m. The field was discovered in 1987, and its plan for development and operation was approved in 1991.
The field was developed with a central subsea manifold tied back to Gullfaks C, which also supplies water for injection. Its subsea system includes seven single-well satellites and two subsea templates connected to the manifold.
Production from Tordis started in 1994. The latest consent clears Equinor to proceed with the planned well closure work using COSL Promoter.
