Greece — ECOLOG and DESFA have secured €169.3 million in funding from the EU Innovation Fund to develop the APOLLOCO2 Project, a carbon capture and liquefaction initiative in Greece.

The project will construct a Floating Liquefaction and Storage Unit capable of processing 3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of CO₂, expandable to 5 mtpa. The facility will utilise cold energy through heat exchangers for CO₂ liquefaction, made possible by its co-location with the Revithoussa LNG import terminal.

The terminal will support both large and small industrial emitters in southern Greece that are implementing carbon capture measures to reduce emissions.

ECOLOG and DESFA said the APOLLOCO2 project represents an important step for Greece in its efforts to decarbonise heavy industry while maintaining employment within the energy sector.
