DEME Orders Offshore Construction Vessel to Boost Subsea Cable Installation Capacity

DEME has announced an order for a new Offshore Construction Vessel (OCV), aimed at enhancing its subsea cable installation capabilities to meet growing demand in the global offshore wind market.

The 123-metre vessel will complement DEME’s existing cable installation fleet, which includes the Living Stone and Viking Neptun. Designed for high versatility, the OCV will be capable of executing trenching, burial, and cable-laying operations.

Developed on the advanced Norwegian SALT 310 design, the ship will feature a DP2 dynamic positioning system, a 150-ton active heave-compensated offshore crane, and a hangar for two Work Class ROVs. Below deck, it will house two 2,500-ton cable carousels, enabling efficient transitions between operations.

In line with sustainability goals, the vessel will integrate a 1,000-kWh hybrid battery system and a methanol-ready propulsion system, ensuring flexibility for future fuel use. Accommodation will be provided for up to 123 personnel.

DEME said the new vessel reinforces its strategic focus on delivering advanced offshore solutions, particularly as demand for subsea cable installation continues to grow with the expansion of offshore wind energy projects worldwide.
