A cargo vessel capsized and sank off Surigao del Norte, Philippines on 30 April, with all 32 crewmembers safely rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard.
The locally registered LCT Pacifica 3 was en route to Dapa when it encountered rough sea conditions, according to Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab.
The vessel later overturned and broke apart at sea. Coast Guard response teams were immediately deployed to the area and rescued all 32 crewmembers.
Authorities are continuing to assess the vessel’s condition and are monitoring surrounding waters for any signs of pollution.
Investigations are underway to determine the type of cargo onboard at the time of the incident, along with the volume of fuel remaining in the vessel’s tanks. Crew members are also being interviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry into the accident.
