Norway’s BOA Offshore has successfully completed the launch of three floating substructures for the EOLMED Floating Offshore Wind Project, marking a significant step in the development of France’s first commercial-scale floating wind farm.
The company provided full engineering, project management, and marine operations support to deliver the massive floating foundations to their designated quay in southern France. The operation utilized the semi-submersible barge BOABARGE 35 and the ASD tug BOA Brage, supported by local tugboats. The initial load-out was managed by Sarens, a specialist in heavy lifting and transport operations.
The project team highlighted the advanced submerging capabilities and load capacities of BOA’s vessels, which ensured a safe and precisely controlled sequence of load-out, transport, and float-off operations. According to BOA, the success of this campaign underscores the company’s engineering expertise and long-standing experience in executing complex offshore operations for the renewable energy sector.
The EOLMED Floating Offshore Windfarm, located off the coast of Gruissan, France, will feature three 10 MW floating wind turbines, representing a major milestone in France’s renewable energy ambitions and in the advancement of floating wind power across the Mediterranean region.
