Drilling activity is set to proceed at Megah-2 offshore Sabah, Malaysia, following the 2025 Megah-1 oil discovery in Deepwater Block 3K.

Malaysia’s Marine Department issued Notice to Mariners NTM 53(T)/2026 on 29 September 2026 for the towing of a drilling vessel and well drilling works at Megah-2 in Sabah waters. The government notice follows earlier marine survey activity associated with the Megah and Limbayong projects.

PETRONAS confirmed Megah-1 as one of two exploration discoveries made in Malaysia during the first half of 2025. The well is located in Deepwater Block 3K. The other discovery reported during the period was Lebah Emas-1ST1 in Block PM6/12.

Further subsurface work is under way over the Megah area. TGS said on 1 October 2026 that it is reprocessing 3D seismic data covering approximately 514 sq km in Block SB-3K. Processing started in July 2026, with delivery of the final dataset scheduled for April 2027. The resulting data is intended to improve understanding of the subsurface and assist future exploration and appraisal decisions, including well planning.

Separate offshore survey work has also been completed at Megah and Limbayong. Fugro carried out an ultra-deepwater geohazard site survey for PETRONAS Carigali offshore Sabah. The work collected information on seabed and near-surface conditions for use in hazard assessment and engineering studies supporting development activities.

Malaysia’s Marine Department had previously issued NTM 18(T)/2026 on 4 June for the Megah and Limbayong project site survey, followed by an amendment on 24 June. The latest Megah-2 drilling notice was issued on 29 September.
