Fugro has completed an ultra-deepwater geohazard site survey for PETRONAS Carigali covering the Megah and Limbayong fields offshore Sabah, Malaysia.
The campaign ran from June to August 2026. Fugro Equator deployed the Echo Surveyor 8 autonomous underwater vehicle to collect high-resolution bathymetric, geophysical and shallow subsurface data for geohazard assessment, engineering design and field development planning. Fugro’s Kuala Lumpur Remote Operations Centre supported data quality control and processing.
Malaysia’s Marine Department had issued a Notice to Mariners on 4 June 2026 for the Megah and Limbayong project site survey in Sabah waters, followed by an amended notice on 24 June.
The survey took place as activity progressed around both offshore assets. PETRONAS confirmed in its first-half 2026 results that the Limbayong Deepwater Project had secured final investment decision approval. Separately, TechnipFMC announced on 15 September 2026 that it had received an iEPCI contract from PETRONAS Carigali for the Limbayong deepwater development.
Megah was identified by PETRONAS as one of its Malaysian exploration discoveries in the first half of 2025, with the Megah-1 well located in Deepwater Block 3K.
Fugro has previously used the Echo Surveyor 8 for deepwater offshore surveys, including its 2024 marine survey programme for the Abadi LNG project in Indonesia.
