Ørsted said the final wind turbine was installed last week at its 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan, completing the project’s turbine build-out.
The development sits around 35,000–60,000 m off Changhua County and features 66 SG 14-236 units rated at 14 MW each. Offshore construction began in February 2025, while turbine erection started in April 2025. The work was carried out by turbine supplier Siemens Gamesa using Cadeler’s newly built installation vessel, Wind Maker.
Under a corporate power purchase agreement signed in 2020, Ørsted described the project as the first in the Asia-Pacific region to supply renewable electricity to its corporate customer through such an arrangement. After first power in July 2025, output has been delivered into the national grid.
Per Mejnert Kristensen, CEO of Region APAC at Ørsted, said completing the installation of all turbines represents a milestone for Taiwan’s offshore wind build-out and for the company’s 8.1 GW construction pipeline. Jayaram Naidu, Managing Director of the Changhua offshore wind farms at Ørsted, said finishing the 920 MW installation within a single season was achieved despite a short weather window and difficult sea conditions in the Taiwan Strait, supported by coordinated marine operations, logistics, and planning.
Safety measures were applied across contractor selection, vessel mobilisation, and offshore works, the company said. Since the start of the turbine installation phase, about 131,576 offshore working hours have been recorded with zero lost-time injuries. Current activities include turbine commissioning, electrical system testing, and completion of offshore cable works, with full project operation expected in Q3 2026.
Technical milestones highlighted include large-scale deployment of piling-free suction bucket jacket foundations to keep underwater noise close to background levels during installation, the first offshore wind farms globally to install 14 MW turbines fitted with 115 m blades, and completion of the 66-unit installation programme in 275 days.
